Catching "super big" tuna weighing 411.6kg

Ms. Donna Pascoe (56 years old, New Zealander) was extremely lucky to catch a Pacific bluefin tuna weighing 411.6kg.

According to estimates, the above tuna can be processed into 1,769 boxes of fish and if calculated at the market price, it can be up to 2 million USD (more than 40 billion VND). The blue tuna is referred to by fishermen as the "Picasso of the sea".

However, because it was not caught from a commercial fishing vessel, Mrs. Pascoe was not allowed to sell it. Therefore, Mrs. Pascoe wanted to keep it as a "stuffed animal" and hang it on the wall as a souvenir.

To catch the giant tuna, Mrs. Pascoe struggled with it for 4 hours and 11 minutes near the Three Kings Islands off Cape Reinga, New Zealand.

With a weight of more than 400kg, Ms. Pascoe had to rely on the help of 4 accompanying fishermen and use specialized ropes to pull the giant 2.6m-long tuna onto the boat.

"It's a very stubborn and stubborn fish but luckily I persevered to make it submit. We told ourselves we had to get the tuna before it was devoured by the sharks. When it took a bite, we didn't know what it was. When we pulled it onto the boat, we were all happy even though our limbs were already broken," said Ms. Pascoe.

According to UK Fisheries Association President Alistair Blair, the real value of the tuna is about 83,000 USD. However, if sold at auction like a 222kg bluefin tuna in Japan last year ($1.09 million), Ms. Pascoe's fish could sell for about $2 million.
